Mark van Bommel’s chances of becoming the next AC Milan coach have been boosted by Zlatan Ibrahimovic placing himself in the Dutchman’s corner.

As reported by Tuttosport (via Radio Rossonera), Van Bommel is a genuine option for Milan given he is set to leave Royal Antwerp at the end of the season and has support from inside Casa Milan.

The former midfielder is best known for playing at Bayern Munich and for Milan. He became a key player under Massimiliano Allegri during his short spell at Milan, helping them win the Scudetto in 2011.

He spent a season and a half with Milan and made a good impression, and Ibrahimovic now wants to bring him back to the club.

The fact that he used the 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 formations regularly has made him a popular choice from a tactical standpoint, whilst his leadership and international experience whilst coaching PSV Eindhoven, Wolfsburg and Antwerp also serve to boost his profile.

He is certainly not the only coach that Milan are looking at, with the likes of Paulo Fonseca, Sergio Conceicao, Christoph Galtier and Thiago Motta among others also attracting attention.

Van Bommel has less of a profile than some other names but Ibrahimovic thinks he is a good fit to replace Stefano Pioli.
