Phillies Most Dynamic Player Goes Through Agility Drills

The Philadelphia Phillies are a machine right now. They hope Trea Turner can add to their consistent ways as he went through agility drills and fielded grounders at before the Phillies took on the New York Mets, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Turner is less than two weeks removed from suffering a left hamstring strain, it sounds like a positive development that he’s already taking grounders out on the field. Phillies manager Rob Thomson insisted Wednesday that there is “no timeline” for Turner’s return. However, there’s a possibility that the shortstop could beat the initial six-week recovery timetable he was projected for.

Trea Turner Goes Through Agility Drills

The strain in his left hamstring was significant to land on the 10-day injured list. But the good news is that it wasn’t serious enough to require surgery.

“It could have been a lot worse than it was,” Turner said following his diagnosis. “It is what it is.”

After getting off to a slow start in 2023, Turner is having a better year this campaign. He’s hitting .343/.392/.460 with two home runs, 27 runs scored and 10 steals in 11 attempts. Turner has enjoyed great fortune in posting his bottom-line numbers with a .421 BABIP and a .397 wOBA. Turner was one of the key reasons why the Phillies got off to a strong start. They have been able to replace his production as the Phillies ranked second in batting average (.260), on-base percentage (.338) and third in slugging percentage (.418) in the National League.

Bryson Stott Turning Around in the Absence of Turner

Turner will be glad to know that his teammate Bryson Stott is the Phillies hottest hitter. Down two runs in the ninth on Tuesday against the Mets, Stott hit a solo home run to tie the game when a pitch with the bases loaded hit Alec Bohm. In the top of the 10th, Stott fell behind in the 0-2 count but hit a sacrifice fly to deep right field to score Bryce Harper in a 5-4 win. Stott has been the kind of play who can carry an offense and he’s doing pretty good at it. He’s driven in 11 runs in his last eight games but also reached base in 12 of his last 19 plate appearances.

“That dude is my stud,” Brandon Marsh said. “He showed it day in and day out last year. It was only a matter of time for him to start clicking and no better time than now.
