Ryan Garcia is no stranger to controversy. He gets in trouble with everybody, ranging from baseball teams to other fighters. The controversial boxer knows how to draw attention, making him a magnet for the news.

But his latest actions have people even more intrigued. The Los Alamitos native wants a rematch with Gervonta “Tank” Davis (29-0), the lone fighter that defeated him. However, Garcia wants the fight on his terms, which may make matters difficult.

But could a fight between the two parties actually happen? What conditions does Garcia speak of? Here’s a look at the potential fight and its little details.

Ryan Garcia Wants a Catchweight Fight

Ryan Garcia wants a catchweight fight between himself and Davis. What this means is there are no weight restrictions in the fight. Therefore, it would be a pound-for-pound bout between the two contestants.

The only problem is that “Tank’s” camp isn’t likely to bite on this. Garcia regularly fights in the lightweight circuit, whereas the Baltimore native spends time in different weight classes. These include the super featherweight and lightweight divisions. If a bout were to happen, it would likely be in the lightweight division.

A catchweight fight would put Davis at an unfair advantage, leaving Garcia favored. If the bout were to happen, it would likely be a lightweight bout between the two combatants. But there are more problems with the fight than just the weight…

The Problem On Ryan Garcia’s End

While Ryan Garcia can be an entertaining personality and controversial boxer, he can also be erratic. He missed out on the opportunity to obtain Devin Haney’s undisputed lightweight championship by missing weight.

Granted, the 25-year-old still defeated Haney via decision. Also, missing weight isn’t much of a problem in a catchweight fight. But what if he doesn’t fully commit to the fight? What if Garcia doesn’t take this seriously?

That’s a major question that looms with a potential fight with Gervonta Davis. “Tank’s” camp wants a serious commitment from Garcia in a potential rematch, along with a level playing field. Judging from Garcia’s recent actions and words, that might not be a possibility.
